This small miniature portrait-bust, which is apparently unique, represents King Charles II some time in the late 1650s when he was still in exile in the Netherlands. It is closely comparable with painted an engraved portraits of the King made in the period. This bust was presumably commissioned by the King himself or one of his relatives of supporters in exile.
