This plaster model is the right hand of H.R.H Princess Alice Maud Mary, Princess of Great Britain and Ireland, Duchess of Saxony, later Grand Duchess of Hesse-Darmstdt. These casts were taken from the subject when a child. Princess Alice was the third child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

Though the present piece and Mus. Nos. 1892-128, 1892-127:2 and 1892-89 were acquired with a series of casts of hands through the Executors of the late Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm, those objects have been catalogued as unattributed, since they were executed before 1862 when Boehm settled in London.
