Relief
ca. 1567 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This relief was cast from a mould, and is from the same workshop as A. 100-1929, whose frame is dated 1567, which gives a probable date for this work. Stylistically, this piece is in the tradition of Castilian sculpture of the mid-sixteenth century, and although relatively crude and on a much smaller scale, it is related to works such as the crucifixion group of about 1544 by Francisco Giralte (1490/1500-1576) on the high altar of Villabrágima (Valladolid). The twisting pose of St John can also be compared with the work of Juan de Juni (c. 1507-1577).
