Plaquette
early 20th century (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This bronze plaquette was made by Lissy Echart in Germany, in the beginning of the 20th century. The simplicity of the composition and the almost expressionist formula of the figures gives a certain timelessness of the funeral depicted here. The nationalistic tone to be seen in other German first World War medals is absent here, and instead the scene concentrates on the grievance of the bereaved and the dignity of the funeral.
