This is a terracotta sketch model representing a Sibyl and is ascribed to Annibale Fontana, made in Italy in the second half of the 16th century.
The sketch model shows a general correspondence with a Sibyl by Annibale Fontana over the entrance of Sta. Maria presso S. Celso, Milan (1577-79).

Physical description
The figure reclines on her right side on a corniced and partly sloping base in the form of the right-hand section of a pediment. The upper part of the body is erect, the head inclined downwards and to the left. The legs are flexed, the lower resting flat on the base, the upper supported by the left hand clasping the calf. The figure is draped in a loose sleeved gown with reeved sleeves and a stole-like length of material running from the right-hand over the head, round the neck and down to the right-hand edge of the base.
