From the early 1970s, Shore explored the 'social landscape' which he photographed in colour. At the same time, he became fascinated with the many commercial applications of photography, including the postcard. The card shown here is unusual in that its caption omits one important part of the location: the name of the city. It is a generic image of an American city of the South, an ironic comment on postcard stereotypes.
