Object history note
This panel was bought from the manufacturer and shows some of the floor tiles made by Parvillée Frères for the restoration of the Château d'Eu, which began in 1874. The company's prestige is recognised in this commission by the Château's owner, the Comte de Paris, and the architect Viollet-le-Duc.
Historical context note
Parvillée's work for the French government and his experience in restoration and reproduction work ensured the company's prestige.
