This figure is of a European merchant in the type of clothes worn from about 1700-1725. It comes with a wooden carrying case. Models of European and Chinese figures were popular trade items shipped from China to Europe in the 18th century. They decorated the interior of country houses.

Physical description

[Figure (head)] Painted clay head with white wig
[Box] Laquered wood box, with hinged door secured with two hook catches, decorated on the front with a landscape scene with trees, buildings, rocks and water in gold, and on the sides with flowers and butterflies in gold and colours.
[Figure of European] Figure of a Western merchant, made of clay on a bamboo armature and painted; the figure wears a brown dress coat, white shirt, black shoes and stockings, and carries a black tricorn hat under his left arm.
