Institute of British Architects Prize Medal

Medal
1836 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This medal produced in silver and gold commemorates the inauguration of the I.B.A. (1834), and was first presented in 1836. The design for the obverse was drawn up by the architect Professor Thomas Leverton Donaldson, secretary to the I.B.A. at the time and champion of the architectural medal both Classical and contemporary. The execution is however very definitely that of Benjamin Wyon.

Wyon is the name of a talented family of designers, die-engravers and medallists whose period of activity extended from before the middle of the 18th century to almost the end of the 19th century.
