Design for Aladdin in Aladdin, showing a full length greyish haired androgynous figure, wearing a long sleeved, high necked tunic, the body in blackish-green, the shoulder fastening, shoulders and hem edged in white, the neck decorated with scroll patterns in white, the wide sleeves of a pale grey fabric decorated with white flower patterns towards the cuffs, with calf length wide legged dark green breeches, and a small, close fitting, white and blackish-green hat. The design is signed and dated and on the reverse is inscribed with the name of the actor and the character.

This is one of a collection of designs for pantomime and cabaret, given to the Theatre Museum by the designer, Cynthia Tingey, who created the costumes for 15 of the annual London Palladium pantomimes. This design was made for the pantomime, Aladdin, at the London Palladium, 20 December 1978. The production was directed by Dougie Squires. Dily Watling played Aladdin.

Historical significance: An example of pantomime costume design of the second half of the 20th century and of the work of a designer who specialised in pantomime and variety design. It is also an example of a costume for a principal boy.
