Place of origin

The pottery at Villa Belvedere in Frascati, Italy, was specialising in the then fashionable 'Etruscan style' during the 1870s. The Museum of Practical Geology (from where this mug were transferred in 1901) acquired ceramics production for its illustration of the use of different clays. The South Kensington Museum (now the V&A) was always more interested in the sources and influences on the design of shape and pattern.
