Place of origin

Pierre-Adrien Dalpayrat (1844-1910) specialised in copper red glazes combined with rich greens and purples, which he exhibited first in 1892-3. This vase comes within his green spectrum. He established his workshop in Bourg-la-Reine with his wife and their three sons. After the death in 1893 of his chief collaborator, Alphonse Voisin Delacroix, he combined with Mlle. Adèle Lesbros (Lesbros & cie) in aiming to produce high quality but reasonably priced stoneware. Also in 1893 he won a gold medal at the International Exhibition held in Chicago.

Historical context
Dalpayrat was born in Limoges; from 1867 he worked in Bordeaux, then in Toulouse before running a pottery in Monte Carlo (1876-88). He established the workshop at Bourg-la-Reine in 1889.
