This is one of a collection of designs for pantomime and cabaret, given to the Theatre Museum by the designer, Cynthia Tingey, who created the costumes for 15 of the annual London Palladium pantomimes. This design was made for the pantomime, Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp, at the London Palladium, 22 December 1964. The production was directed by Albert J. Knight.

Historical significance: An example of pantomime costume design of the second half of the 20th century and of the work of a designer who specialised in pantomime and variety design.

Physical description
Design for a Sapphire Dancer in Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp, showing a full length female figure wearing a heavily jewelled costume designed to suggest strands of sapphires across a naked figure, the body of the costume formed of strands of turquoise jewels attached to Eastern style bejewelled shoulder pieces, with a high-collared diaphaneous cloak decorated with a pattern of short white lines. The character is richly adorned with jewellery and wears a headdress in the form of a gold and sapphire tiara with hanging strands of sapphires, and a gold and sapphire jewelled collar and bracelets of gold set with sapphires on the wrists and upper arms. She carries a gold 'sceptre' set with a large sapphire. The background is painted in bold stokes of dark browny-grey gouache. The design is signed and dated.
