Place of origin

This Christmas card by the late Helen Chadwick -a visceral alternative to the usual seasonal platitudes - loads the festive deployment of the colour red with altogether darker associations. A lurid colour photograph depicts a red gloss-painted Barbie doll, with a shock of platinum blonde hair, "dressed" in an envelope of glistening raw flesh and fur - an image of almost Bataillean excess.
