This is one panel from a set of six, hand-painted on silk. They show landscapes painted in the style of traditional Chinese ink and wash drawings. Like the 18th and 19th century Chinese export wallpapers, they are examples of Chinese pictorial traditions adapted to western tastes and styles of interior decoration. They are very similar to the wallpapers which were hung in the bedrooms of the Mandarin Hotel, Hong Kong in the 1960s.
