Place of origin |
Vase of tin-glazed earthenware with decoration in opaque white on a blue ground. Inverted baluster form with a low vertical neck-rim. Round the neck is a band of formal ornament, consisting of pendant acanthus-leaves alternating with lanceolate leaves. The body is decorated with three chinoiserie scenes in circular panels framed with a running of cloud-like scrolls. The spaces between the roundels are filled with branching stems bearing spiky half-leaves of split-palmette type, and the roundels are connected to each other by motives made up of devices derived from the 'ju-i' pattern flanked by leaves. Round the foot is a running pattern of flowers and scrolled leaves. Foot mounted in metal.
