Physical description

Figure of ‘Smell’, from a series of the Five Senses, of hard-paste porcelain. A woman with classical drapery standing by a high square plinth holding an incense burner. She holds a posy of flowers to her nose; at her feet a hunting dog sniffs the ground. Square, flowered base. Ormolu mount, probably contemporary French. Pianted with enamel colours and gilt: white undergarment with an over-drapery of puce with coloured Indian flowers lined in turquoise.
