Fragment, buff-coloured earthenware, covered with white slip and painted in manganese olive-black with a quatrefoil motif and arches, with panels filled in in turquoise, covered in a clear lead glaze, the foot unglazed. Evidence of old glue, repaired at time of excavation perhaps.

Gerald Roberts Reitlinger (1900-1978) was an art historian, who in 1930-1, was part of an archaeological excavation at Kish in the Near East financed by the Field Museum, Chicago, and in 1932 at Al-Hirah, financed by the University of Oxford.
