Fragment from three pieces, brick-red earthenware, incised with curving interlaced bands of overlapping strapwork, each with repeating 'X'-shaped motifs and foliate scrolls, covered in a clear yellowish lead glaze, also on the exterior, splashed with green-copper and purple-manganese details. The interior of the footring is covered with a green glaze.

Gerald Roberts Reitlinger (1900-1978) was an art historian, who in 1930-1, was part of an archaeological excavation at Kish in the Near East financed by the Field Museum, Chicago, and in 1932 at Al-Hirah, financed by the University of Oxford. |
