Squat baluster form with low wide neck and flattened rim. Four handles from base of the rim to the shoulder. Chevrons in a frieze round the body, painted green, purple and brown. Elongated figure of eights round the shoulder similarly coloured. Design incised through a white slip with manganese and copper colourants under a lead glaze.

Purchased from Randall Coate who was given this jar in 1962 by the headman of "the last village up the mountain" as they started to climb Nimrud Dagh, near Samsat in South East Anatolia.
