Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Medallion of Jasper ware with blue dip and applied white relief decoration. Mounted in a circular gold frame adorned with twisted gold wire and set as a brooch. The cameo scene, Sacrifice to Concordia, depicts a female in classical robes. She kneels in front of a flaming tripod, set before a small draped and veiled statue of Concordia, the Roman goddess of peace and agreement. The godess, atop a pillar decorated with her symbol of two clasped hands, holds her attribute of an olive branch. The kneeling figure holds a Patera, a bowl for ritual ceremonies, above the flames in her right hand, and holds something above it in her thumb and forefinger. A jug sits on the ground.
