Teapot

ca. 1760 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Teapot and lid in soft-paste porcelain transfer-printed in black enamel and painted in polychrome enamels and gilded. Fluted spherical body with low footring, collar neck, faintly ribbed loop handle and slightly S-shaped curved tapering spout. Flat lid with pointed ovoid finial. Transfer-printed in black outline with groups of Chinese figures, identical on the two sides of the body -- to the right, two women sitting at a marbled talbe on which is a vase of flowers, while behind it another vase stands at a tall pedestal; to the left of these stand two women, one with a small child, the other with a fan under her arm. On the cover are figures corresponding to those on the body (with the exception of the woman with the fan) on a smaller scale. Round the shoulder of the teapot and the rim of the lid, borders of arcading and dots in red and gold.
