Physical description

'Blanc-de-chine' porcelain painted in red, green, yellow and black enamels and gilt. Globular body with wide, straight cylindrical neck, the foot below is solid; the handle is a fluted flat strip which rises outwards from the neck and curves in to meet the lower part of the body. Decoration in low, moulded relief consists of a band of pointed leaves around the foot, a hatched border round the shoulder and narrow rib encircling the whole length of the neck. Both the upper and lower parts of the mug bear painted decoration comprising heart-shaped or circular panels containing minute landscapes with river fishermen; these are set on a pale red ground diapered with a gilt-lozenge pattern. The handle bears a wavy red line and dots along the side. Mount: Turkish 19th century silver stopper and chain.
