Painted with a scene with a female figure of Hope seated on a rock by the sea-shore, and with an anchor near her, within a border of gilt lacework. On the rim is a border of ovolo, rosettes, stars and circles in gold on a dark blue ground.

Painted with a scene with a female figure of Hope seated on a rock by the sea-shore, and with an anchor near her, within a border of gilt lacework. Object history
The dish is identical in design to those made for Hope Service made for the Duke of Clarence and painted by John Pennington around 1792. However, the wording and form of the factory mark would appear to date this piece to around 1810, so it was perhaps made as a replacement or an addition to the original service.
