Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Plaque of white Jasper ware with a green dip and applied white bas-relief decoration. The scene, Priam begging the body of Hector from Achilles, is taken from a classical Sarcophagus. A bearded and cloaked man (Priam) kneels infront of a relaxed seated Achilles, holding his hand and begging for the return of his son Hector's body. Behind them a young armoured man stands in a fine two-horse chariot. A cloaked old man (Priam?) sits in a cart at the back of the procession, amongst presents for Achilles. Beside the cart a young man, naked apart from a fig-leaf, holds up a vase.
