The scene was probably painted by Johann Karl Gerlach, and depicts the Residenzschloß Heidecksburg, overlooking the town of Rudelstadt, with Friederike Sophie Auguste von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (1745-1778), and her African attendant
She was the daughter of Fürst Johann Friedrich von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt,
and in 1763 merried Friedrich Karl von Scharzburg-Rudolstadt, the cousin of her father.
