Made of a fine lozenge-patterned silk fabric, the original apparel was sumptuously embroidered with at least four medallions arranged in pairs, each medallion containing a majestically striding lion, and acanthus-like sprays in the interstices. A white and green tablet-woven band bordered the apparel’s upper edge. The sophisticated design, underlined by the varied arrangement of stitches (e.g. the chevron shapes on the animals’ bodies, evoking their fur) and details in differently coloured silks, renders the apparel, which was probably once attached to an alb, close to later embroideries such as the Clare Chasuble
