STANDING CANDLESTICK
Wrought iron and brass
France; 15th century

This type of candlestick is sometimes called a couronne de lumière pediculée, referring to the tiers or crowns of candles of candles at the top, and is the ancestor of the standard lamp. This is a typical example of a French 15th-century ironwork design that was frequently copied elsewhere in Europe.
