A specially decorated glass goblet was a popular way of commemorating a marriage from about 1600-1800. This splendidly engraved example shows two coats of arms in a cartouche, symbolising the alliance of two families. The town of Nuremberg, where it was engraved, had an international reputation for such luxury work.
