This panel was ought after the Society of Arts competition of 1866 where it won a prize. William Letheren was born and trained in Cheltenham, Glos, and was active as a smith of decorative ironwork at a time of prosperity, which fuelled a building boom. No building was considered complete without panels, gates and balustrades of iron.
