Object history
In 1870 Amedée Paillard patented a type of box designed to hold a number of cylinders at the same time. This ingenious mechanism meant that as many as forty different tunes could be played consecutively. In spite of the obvious advantages of such a system, relatively few music boxes of this type were actually made.
