Chimneypiece, English 18th century

Carved pinewood; the framework is decorated with egg and tongue and astragal mouldings. At either end of the frieze, which is broken into two panels, is a bracket, carved with acanthus foliage. The mantel-shelf in the form of a cornice is carved with a band of leaf ornament.
