Pen Case

1400-1500 (made)

Lidded case of rounded 'sausage' form and semi-circular profile, of moulded leather with embossed decoration, coloured to a brownish red. Flat-topped, shut-over cap consisting of one pair of layers, the outer layer coloured red, fitted with a pair of eyes corresponding with eyes on the container, for a round thong (missing). The container consists of two layers (the outer coloured green at the opening below a second pair (the outer coloured red). On the front, a device on a shield at the top, above two panels containing a pattern of leafy stems. On the flat rear, a shield of arms above two panels containing a design of flowering stems. The base rounded. No lining.
