Place of origin

Carved in low relief with a central shield flanked by grotesque figures riding on monsters, surrounded by large scrolling acanthus foliage. Along the top runs an undulating stem; along the bottom gadrooning.

Constructed from a single walnut board, to which a moulding has been nailed along the bottom edge of the front. Nail holes indicate that the chest from which it was removed was of nailed (boarded construction).

Condition 2019:
The lock removed, and the space filled with a piece of wood. Water staining.
