Oak panel. Carved with a representation of St Mary Magdalene meeting Christ in the Garden after the Resurrection: the figures are beneath the canopy of a tent inscribed NOLLI MI TANGERE. DIXI. (St John xx.17). Above the canopy are four angels, two of which uphold the front of the tent. On either side is a pilaster decorated with interlocking bands. Below is a panel containing two interlacing branches bearing leaves and flowers, surmounted by a band of leaf ornament and between two pilasters decorated with 'money' ornament.

Object history
Purchased for £15: 'wormeaten, chipped and portions missing'.

This panel was formerly in the collection of Emile Peyre (1824-1904), a notable Parisian collector of French medieval and renaissance artefacts. In 1895 the South Kensington Museum (renamed the V&A in 1900), bought over 300 pieces of furniture and woodwork from him, (as well as sculpture and metalwork), at a cost of £11,878. 16s. 9d.
