Rayon ikat bath wrap for the hamam bath-house. Warp patterned rayon, uncut in loom-state. Two wraps joined together as they had been woven. The three narrow bands without weft indicates where they should have been cut.
There is a wide border along each side which is divided into three ikat stripes between four blocks of plain stripes. The colours used are black, dark red, yellow and white. There is a band of multi-coloured lurex at each end and bands of silver lurex at regular intervals.
The selvedges are plain red. The ends are unfinished with 1 cm of plain weave and 1 cm without weft. The ikat stripes throughout are 0.4 cms wide using two colours.

Object history | Purchased. Registered File number 1990/2177. Called Mi'zar al-hammam, these wraps were used by mane and women in the outer rooms of the bath house. The use of rayon and lurex has replaced the traditional silk, although the size and layout of the design remains the same. |
