Object history
Registered File number 1985/1122.

This length of Rufflette tape with hooks was taken from a woven curtain by Templeton's dated to the late 19th century, so was previously assumed to date from the same time. Recent research has shown that Rufflette tape was introduced in 1922, so clearly the tape is unlikely to have been originally used with that curtain (which was not donated to the V&A).
Production
Manufacturers Thomas French & Sons introduced Rufflette tape, probably from 1922.
