Table Cloth

ca. 1790-1820 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Table cloth of linen damask. The whole field is covered with delicate floral trails and tiny detached flower sprigs. The field is bounded by a line from which hang rosettes and tassels on a beaded string. The border is filled with a thin straggling vine meander, to which are tied at the corners sprays of rose buds forming a cartouche in which is a small basket full of flowers. The outer edging of this border is rococo in character, with clusters of flowers being linked top and bottom by sprays of leaves, and the space this encloses contains a fancy filling. Marking the outer limits of the cloth is a band of chequerboard. Satin of 8.
