Table cloth of linen damask. Large urn on a pedestal in the centre with isolated sprigs scattered across the rest of the ground. Wide and elaborate border with a geometric frame incorporating pedestals and floral motifs in the corners. The initials 'T.P.' are sewn in blue at one end and the cloth has been hemmed at the top and bottom. Drawloom woven, and the damask is based on a satin of 8. and découpure 4 threads.

Object history | Registered File number 1983/232. Thomas Palmer, married Elizabeth Schee in 1822 (see T.47 to 49-1986). Family Tree: Thomas Palmer (1702-1766) married Elizabeth; George Palmer married Sarah Oriel; Their Four children: Thomas, Philip, Felix, George (d.1814). Thomas married Elizabeth Schee (1822) and he was said by his descendants to have lived at 1 St. Martin's Lane and to have been a glass-maker. He has a country house at Hendon where he was buried at St. Mary's Church. His crest was a greyhound after which a local pub was named. (From the T.46-1986 register) |
