Flounce of bobbin lace. Large sprays of roses hang vertically from the upper straight edge at 9 inch intervals, and they are linked by curved lines of rosettes and oval-shapes. Below these are three bell-shaped forming a scalloped lower edge. The upper part of the flounce contains sprays of roses and leaf shapes. The pattern is worked in cloth and half-stitch with a variety of plaited fillings and some raised outlining with coarse threads and a little true Brussels cordonnet work. The parts of the pattern are linked by plaited brides.

Object history
This flounce was worn on the wedding dress of Violet Georgina Burnett (June 1877-November 1968) when she married Major Charles Burnett of the 18th Hussars on August 6th 1903. It is believed that the lace was originally made for Violet's mother's wedding in April 1873 and handed down. The wedding veil en suite with this flounce is museum no. T.108-1969.
