1730-1760 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Bed cover and cushion cover of white satin, backed with coarse cotton and lined with a thin layer of cotton wool. Quilted with cream silk in large, single running stitches.
The bed cover is divided into a central panel and border. In the centre is a group of five circles, containing rosettes, formed by interlaced figures of eight. The circles are repeated in the corners of the central panel and of the border. The ground is covered with a lattice of intersecting pairs of parallel lines. The border contains a continuous design of inter-laced coiling lines with diamonds at the intersections. Edged with a cream satin ribbon.
The cushion cover contains the same border and ground patterns, without the circles. It was originally a pillow cover that has been opened out.
