Cot Cover

1725-1750 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Quilted cot cover, a panel of fine linen backed with coarse linen and Italian-quilted with white linen thread in back and running stitches. Several large leaves and smaller flower heads are decorated with pulled fabric filings using a limited number of simple geometric patterns.
In the centre, a round flower head; the four quarters are identically patterned with a large, curving feather running diagonally from the centre to the corner. Small floral sprigs and a fewer, larger leaves fill-up the remaining ground to form a dense, over-all pattern. The cover was edged with a late 19th century cotton bobbin lace which has been removed.
