Place of origin |
Non-matching bag and pincushion. The small semi-circular bag is made of pink silk satin, lined with ivory silk damask. It is couched on both sides with silver and silver-gilt filé and purl in a design of coiling stems containing trefoil leaves arranged around a central flower. The bag is edged with silver bobbin lace. The top of the purse is trimmed with a narrow silver woven lace [braid]. There is a plaited silver draw-string with 2 bobbles of plaited silver thread and one of plaited silver-gilt thread over wooden cores.
The oblong pincushion is made of a different pink silk satin, embroidered with coloured silks in satin, long and short stitches and couched with silver and silver-gilt filé and purl. There is a heart shape in the centre surrounded by an arrangement of leaves, tulips and acorns on each side. The edges are finished with a plaited cord of pink silk and silver-gilt filé, worked into a tassel at each corner. Attached to the centre top of the pincushion is a double cord for suspension of plaited pink silk and silver-gilt filé with a finial at the top and a small metal ring covered with buttonhole stitch in silver-gilt filé.
