Physical description
Quilted bed cover of block printed cotton. Made up of three printed cottons in several pieces, some badly worn. All are based on madder colours. The first printed cotton, the textile of which there are most pieces, is printed in crimson, pink and purple with flowers on cotton. There are traces of pencilled blue, nearly all worn away. The second printed cotton is on one side with a floral pattern coarsely printed in blue and red on fine cotton. The third is a strip in the middle with a block-printed pattern on very coarse cotton.
The whole is lined with homespun, much patched white linen and quilted with a filling of natural carded wool. With a simple diagonal quilted pattern.

Object history note
Registered File number 1985/2026.
The first printed cotton, the textile of which there are most pieces probably dates from the 1760s shortly after the printing of cotton and was once more permitted in France. The third printed cotton is a strip in the middle with a block-printed pattern on very coarse cotton, which probably dates from the first quarter of the 18th century.
The condition of the cover enables the structure to be clearly seen. Remaining scraps suggest that it was once lined with red cotton.
