Physical description
Aniline purple silk dress, consisting of a bodice, skirt and peplum overskirt trimmed with purple silk fringe, purple velvet ribbon, and bows of the same silk with velvet edging. Three bows applied to front of skirt, exposed by open-fronted peplum, the bodice with wide sleeves edged in fringe and ribbon. Decorative silk-covered buttons. Lace collar and undersleeves. The aniline purple dye has faded extensively over time; originally the dress was all one colour, but the fringe, velvet and silk have all changed colour differently.
