Christening robe of embroidered white cotton muslin. Long robe embroidered with white cotton in satin, stem and buttonhole stitches with French knots, eyelet holes and needlepoint fillings. Wide square neck, short bodice, long skirt gathered onto a narrow waistband, short straight sleeves and back-opening with ties at the neck and waist. Semi-circular decorative panels on the shoulders. Frills on the sleeves, the back neck and down the edges of the front panels on the bodice and skirt. The frills are scalloped and decorated with tiny floral sprigs. The bodice panel is embroidered with curving floral stems on either side of a central row of semi-circular holes with needlepoint fillings. The skirt is decorated with a large spray of thistles, the heads of which are worked in eyelet holes, and other flowers with petals worked in needlepoint stitches.
