Object history
This wedding dress was worn by Agnes Madeline Pattisson (b.July 1876) for her marriage to Martin Hardie (1875-1952) in 1903.

Martin Hardie was Keeper of the Department of Engraving, Illustration and Design at the V&A Museum from 1921 to 1935, and Assistant Keeper from 1914-1921. He worked at the Museum from 1898. He was a nephew of the artists John Pettie RA and Charles Martin Hardie RSA, and a respected artist in his own right, having studied etching under Sir Frank Short RA. Martin Hardie began to exhibit at the Royal Academy in 1908 and continued to do so regularly as well as at the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers and the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, of both of which bodies he was elected a member.
