Model

early 19th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This is a plaster model of the Portico of Septimus Severus, Rome. This model is one of the 15 models which were originally thought to be restored from existing remains and excuted by John Nash. However according to the Farington Diary, these models were not made by Nash himself. Farington saw them on display in Nash's gallery in Regent Street in 1821 and mentions that Nash had commissioned a Frech Artist to make a set of models. These models are probably made by Jean Pierre Fouquet and his son, François Fouquet, model makers of ancient monuments in Paris in the early 19th century.
