This arched relief in pigmented stucco, is made after Francesco di Giorgio, in Siena in the middle of the 15th century.
The relief depends from a marble relief in the former Kaiser Friedrich Museum, Berlin, of which an old reproduction in pigmented stucco exists in the same collection. The present relief is a bit higher than the marble.

Relief, pigmented stucco, the Virgin and Child, after Francesco di Giorgio, Italy (Siena), middle of 15th century
Physical description
Arched relief. The Virgin is shown turned to the left supporting the Child, who is seated on her right knee. He plays with a bird which she holds in her left hand. She wears a light blue mantle over a gold patterned dress. The flesh parts are painted naturalistically, and the background is blue.
