This gilt bronze pax representing Christ in the Sepulchre was probably made in the second half of the 15th century North Italy.

Physical description

Gilt bronze pax, Christ in the Sepulchre. The half length figure of Christ rises from the tomb; the head inclined to the left, the arms crossed. Across the back is stretched a curtain; the front of the sarcophagus is draped. Bordered on either side by pilasters and surmounted by a semi-circular arch of fruit and flowers enclosing a mask.
